Jennifer Pearce

Hi there! My name is Jennifer and I am one of the newest members to MomTalk and JustKiddin'. I am a 40-year-old mother who works outside the home. I live with my husband of eleven years and our two young daughters. After being a stay-at-home-mother for six years, I re-entered the workforce when my husband was briefly unemployed. When he returned to work, I chose to keep working due to economics and the age of my daughters at the time. I now work as the advertising manager of a community newspaper and appreciate how working has gotten me much more involved in my community. However, I often miss the opportunity to spend more time with my daughters, or to volunteer more time with their school and activities. My older daughter is a 10-year-old fourth grader, and my younger daughter is a 6-year-old kindergartener. Their many activities and my husband’s complicated work schedule make scheduling our number one family challenge. He works a rotating shift in a retail store that includes many nights and weekends. We struggle to preserve our time together as a family and make the most of it, while still finding time to accomplish our individual goals and pursue our favorite interests. My interests include reading, writing and photography. I love taking family photos and completed a Project 365 in 2010, taking a photo a day for the year. It was a wonderful experience to document our life for a year and appreciate all the little pieces of it. I am currently working to put the 365 pictures into a scrapbook…if I can just find the time. I look forward to sharing our journey with you here on JustKiddin'!

Father’s Day

We love our dad!  It is time to take a moment and think about what a wonderful blessing my husband is to us.  He works so hard day in and day out without any complaint.  He rises early before the sun and travels to work.  He deals with the petty stressors of a high maintenance job all to support his family.  Then he comes home to have dinner and unwind making sure to give each child a bit of his attention and then works on odds and ends around the house that we need help with.  Then he gives attention to me his wife before falling into bed at night …

Connie’s Favorite Cousin

Father’s Day brought us to Myrtle Beach to hang out with my father and his wife, and my brother Sam and his family, who were vacationing together that week. We popped in and visited with them for the day on Sunday.

For my daughter Connie this meant two things, loads of time with her favorite cousin, Sam’s daughter Mary Katherine, who turned eight that day, and lots of time to swim.

Last time these two were at the beach together was here at Hammocks Beach and they were still so small that they couldn’t run wild and free like this trip. Of course, at the beach there must always be parental …

My Baby Boy is Seven

I cannot believe that it has been seven years since I gave birth to my first child.  Where has the time gone?  He is growing and maturing so much each day.  I count it as a blessing to be able to stay at home with him each and every day and watch him grow and figure out how to live a Godly life in this world.  He is not a baby anymore for sure and he is really not a little boy either.  A growing boy may be a more appropriate label for him.

He has just completed the second grade with a 97.2 overall average for the year.  I am …

Let It Go

Can you let it go?

I am a little bit obsessive about things.  I like things to be neat and orderly in my home and I like things done a certain way.  When I was growing up, I remember that my dad would say things about the way my brother and I did things.  If it wasn’t his way it wasn’t the right way.  I can appreciate that he was the head of the household, but as a kid it bothered me that I had to do it his way because there were other ways to get the job done.  Now that I am a grown-up, I find myself saying …

Honey Sales are up at Swanfest 2014

Summer is here and for the Pearce family that means Swanfest Sundays. We enjoy the free concert series held by the Seaside Arts Council in Swansboro. (There are also free concerts in Emerald Isle on Thursdays, which we also enjoy, although a little less faithfully.)

There is one band in particular that we never miss and that is Wild Honey. We met Angie from Wild Honey when she was singing for “Still Waters,” a church-based band. Every time my older daughter Maggie heard her sing in church, she would go up and give her a hug after and tell her what a good job she did.

After that band had a key …

Anna Claire is a Graduation Girl

It is a bobblehead trophy!

Well it is official!  I now have two kids that have graduated from kindergarten and two to go!  This past week completed our first year of homeschool.  We had a wonderful time and ended it with a program about what the kids learned for our family and friends.  The kids did a wonderful job and even received awards for their hard work and Anna received her kindergarten diploma.  I have loved teaching her how to read and count and I can’t wait to continue on with it next school year.

A graduation is a rite of passage and should be enjoyed by all …

Summertime

This cake is the start of summer in our house!

Well, I just informed my kids that even though it was summer they still had to do chores. BIG SAD FACE!!! Yes life does still go on even when it is summer. We still have to cook and clean and Daddy still has to go to work.  I don’t think they were expecting that on this first day of summer so I guess I burst their bubble.  OOPS!

What were they thinking? That it would be all fun and play and lazy pajama days?  I don’t know but I am sure they will survive.

Do homeschoolers really look forward to …

No Homework, No Gym

My third-grader Connie has had a bit of a struggle towards the end of third grade. She had good grades for third quarter, but right after that, she seems to have gotten a case of Spring Fever and she started “phoning it in.”

The gym is her "happy place," so it's my best bet for an incentive to do well in school.

A few weeks ago, she didn’t turn in her Word Study homework. I was confused by this news, because I know she did the work. Why in the world would you do the work and not turn it in?

After learning of this problem, I made her do …

Traveling on a Budget

Isn't it beautiful?

We are traveling this week to visit my husband’s oldest sister and her husband and three children.  This means that our family will be in the car for about 5 hours, we will be staying in a hotel for two nights and we will be eating out.

Yes we are looking forward to visiting with family that we haven’t seen in over a year.  Especially because this is a special trip since one of the cousins is graduating from kindergarten.  However, traveling with a family means extra spending.  We have known about this trip for a couple of months and have been saving up.  Even though …

Daddy’s Day Off

For Memorial Day, Jared had a day off of work.  He has been working 10 hour days for some time now and has even been pulling Saturdays.  We have hardly seen him home and have missed him terribly.  But this week, he got Monday off for a holiday and we were so happy to have him home with us.  We spent the day together doing fun things around the house.  It was so nice to have my partner back!

We started off the morning cooking in the kitchen together (one of our favorite things to do).  We made eggs, bacon, and toast for the kids and ourselves too!  Then we headed …
