Jennifer Pearce

Hi there! My name is Jennifer and I am one of the newest members to MomTalk and JustKiddin'. I am a 40-year-old mother who works outside the home. I live with my husband of eleven years and our two young daughters. After being a stay-at-home-mother for six years, I re-entered the workforce when my husband was briefly unemployed. When he returned to work, I chose to keep working due to economics and the age of my daughters at the time. I now work as the advertising manager of a community newspaper and appreciate how working has gotten me much more involved in my community. However, I often miss the opportunity to spend more time with my daughters, or to volunteer more time with their school and activities. My older daughter is a 10-year-old fourth grader, and my younger daughter is a 6-year-old kindergartener. Their many activities and my husband’s complicated work schedule make scheduling our number one family challenge. He works a rotating shift in a retail store that includes many nights and weekends. We struggle to preserve our time together as a family and make the most of it, while still finding time to accomplish our individual goals and pursue our favorite interests. My interests include reading, writing and photography. I love taking family photos and completed a Project 365 in 2010, taking a photo a day for the year. It was a wonderful experience to document our life for a year and appreciate all the little pieces of it. I am currently working to put the 365 pictures into a scrapbook…if I can just find the time. I look forward to sharing our journey with you here on JustKiddin'!

A Parent’s Guide to First Sleepovers

1st sleepover
Last weekend, both of my boys have had their first official sleepover. When they were babies and toddlers it seemed so far away but now with two of them under their belts, they have started to ask every weekend if they can have one!

Since the boys are only 5 and 7 that means their friends are 5 and 7, too.  I know they are on the verge of being “tweens” now, but sleeping away from home is a BIG deal. A strange room, different night lights, no mom and dad…….we all know staying up 2 hours late and eating junk and soda cannot always make up for that.  Lucky …

Vacations are Great, Except for….

Goofy welcomes our family to the happiest place on earth. Well, almost happiest...

I don’t think I ever met anyone who did not like a good vacation. Nice weather, good food, new places to see and who could forget…..meltdowns. We have all had to deal with them. Kids getting to bed two hours late then waking up early because they are just too excited to sleep. By dinner time they are either passed out (if you are lucky) or if you are like me, they are wild animals who need to be sedated!

We had the good fortune to visit Disney World recently and while our photos capture smiles on …

Ketchup at 5…Seriously…

My oldest child will try anything I put on his plate. If he likes it…he will eat A LOT of it. He has tried sushi, fried pickles, calamari…you name it and he will take a bite. I myself had been a choosy eater as a child so I was very excited to see him so eager to branch out and try new things. I should have known karma was going to visit me and bring me a second child more like myself…..10 times over!

Many kids scoff at veggies, don’t eat much meat or have favorite foods. My little man did not even try ketchup until he was FIVE! Yes, you read right…he was FIVE. …

Hello from Kelly (and the Rest of my Clan!)

Add one dog, two kids and three part-time jobs and you have the formula for our life.

Hello to all of you! My name is Kelly Gump and I will be blogging here on TweenBeat. I am the  mother of two boys who are 5 and 7. I was shocked to think of them as tweens but I have been told they are no longer cuddlebugs and I need to move on!

This is our second time living in Eastern NC. I am the wife of an active duty Marine so this is house No. 4 in eight years of marriage (not unlike many of you, I’m sure). Our oldest child was …
