Jennifer Pearce

Hi there! My name is Jennifer and I am one of the newest members to MomTalk and JustKiddin'. I am a 40-year-old mother who works outside the home. I live with my husband of eleven years and our two young daughters. After being a stay-at-home-mother for six years, I re-entered the workforce when my husband was briefly unemployed. When he returned to work, I chose to keep working due to economics and the age of my daughters at the time. I now work as the advertising manager of a community newspaper and appreciate how working has gotten me much more involved in my community. However, I often miss the opportunity to spend more time with my daughters, or to volunteer more time with their school and activities. My older daughter is a 10-year-old fourth grader, and my younger daughter is a 6-year-old kindergartener. Their many activities and my husband’s complicated work schedule make scheduling our number one family challenge. He works a rotating shift in a retail store that includes many nights and weekends. We struggle to preserve our time together as a family and make the most of it, while still finding time to accomplish our individual goals and pursue our favorite interests. My interests include reading, writing and photography. I love taking family photos and completed a Project 365 in 2010, taking a photo a day for the year. It was a wonderful experience to document our life for a year and appreciate all the little pieces of it. I am currently working to put the 365 pictures into a scrapbook…if I can just find the time. I look forward to sharing our journey with you here on JustKiddin'!

Two Nights Child Free

On Sunday, my mom and mother in law arrived (yes..they travel together often…strange but true). They will be here for one week. As usual, they rented a house out on Emerald Isle and a car. They want to enjoy the beach while they are here and while we are at work/school they want to be able to get around where they want to go. It works out well…a mini vacation for them and time with the grandkids. Kerry and I get two nights child free…..not sure we know what to do with that.

So far our biggest plans involved taking in a movie (Bridesmaids) and ordering a pizza for dinner. We got home late Sunday after a day on the lacrosse fields and a later dinner with the grandmas and the boys. At 37…it was just too late for any excitement. We did get a little crazy with a stop at Dairy Queen but that was about it. :) We are too responsible to let our Sunday work not get done so I wrote a few things for the blog and had laundry washing away. However, at some point we did cut loose and headed out for some errands and hit the theater.  We officially had a “date.”

We don’t get time like this very often. We may find 2 hours when we visit back home or make the effort once in a blue moon to get a sitter and go out, but two entire nights without our boys is unheard of. I think we both felt a little lost, but I know we both appreciated it, too. We may miss Jake and Sam a bit but they are in good hands having a blast. Kerry and I need to have some fun too (and try out best to not even talk about those who shall remain nameless;)). I am really grateful we had this opportunity…even if we did get back to reality a little too soon!

Have you had some time alone with your spouse lately?
